Hilmar Middle School has a variety of clubs and after school programs available throughout the year. Some programs and clubs are offered year-round, others are available per sign up at a specific time of the year.
Junk Journal Club
When: Thursdays after school 3:05 to 4:00
Where: Library
What: A junk journal is a book, possibly recycled, made from recycled materials and personal items that can store ideas, memories, or wishes. Some of the benefits of junk journaling include stress, anxiety, or depression management, exploring artistic expression, and can include personal history. Ideas for items to include in a junk journal might include newspapers, fabric scraps, buttons, stamps, old notes, used envelopes, paint samples, or even doodles. Anything and everything can go in the junk journal.
Brain Teasers Club
When: Wednesday’s Afterschool from 3:05pm- 4:00pm
Where: Library
What: Students build problem-solving, spatial visualizaton, and critical-thinking skills as they play with various puzzles. Brainteasers encourage students to exercise logic in new ways and builds confidence to take on more difficult challenges
History/Washington DC Club
When: Once a week during lunch (8th grade only)
Where: Room A6
What: Mandatory meetings for all students that are sign up to attend the Washington D.C. Trip; Goes over all information that is need to know for the trip.
Tutoring
When: Monday through Thursdays; 3:05PM to 4PM
Where: HMS Library
What: Tutoring is for all students who want that extra help with any class assignments or homework. Weekly sign ups in the library- limit 10 students per day. Please look at the Academics > Tutoring section of the school website.
Pokemon Club
When: Afterschool from 3:05pm to 4:00pm
Where: Room C2
What: Pokemon fun!
Yearbook Photography Club
When: Lunch or afterschool from 3:05 to 4:00pm on specific days
Where: Room A1/A4
What: Students are actively involved in capturing HMS student life, sports and events and then creating and developing our yearbook pages. Club sign ups occur at the beginning of the year- morning announcements will notify students when to sign up and apply.
ASSETS Program
When: Afterschool program- All school year long
Where: HMS Cafeteria
What: Assets is a fun, safe place for students to go after school. We offer homework assistance every day. We also have academic support and enrichment activities that we do, like Monthly Thematic Units, Service Learning Projects, Health & Wellness, Recreational Sports & Activities, Visual & Performing Arts & Cultural Awareness. We meet every day right after school until 6:00pm. Students can pick up an application from the office during the day or Steven Egli in the cafeteria after school.
